Minimum Requirements: Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) is seeking qualified applicants for secondary (grades 6-12) reading specialist/literacy positions. Applicants with a 5-year renewable VA teaching license with reading specialist endorsement and/or experience in implementing computer-enhanced curriculum are preferred. Individuals with at least three years of successful classroom teaching experience in which literacy and the teaching of reading was an important component of classroom instruction will also be considered. Secondary reading specialist/literacy teachers are expected to improve the reading achievement of diverse learners by incorporating best practices in reading/literacy instruction. Applicants must have demonstrated ability in the design and management of whole group, small group, independent, and computer supported instructional settings. Secondary reading specialist/literacy teachers must exhibit leadership skills and the capacity to work collaboratively with teachers to support the literacy development of all learners.
